The Ariane Thread
In Greek mythology, the Ariane Thread guided
explorers through the subsurface, and this idea has continued throughout
history.
Aria(d)ne, descendent of Zeus, rolled out a red thread to help Theseus find his way out of the dark and dangerous Cretan maze, when he went in search of the terrible Minotaur.
In more recent history, cave exploration divers trust the “Ariane’s Thread” their peers laid out to orient themselves in the low-visibility waters of flooded natural conduits.
In the same way, we use the Ariane Thread in our software as a guide to walk the user through the different inputs, intermediate outcomes and towards the end results: subsurface risk and resources.
Dancing Distributions
In the early days of ArianeLogiX we designed a very flexible uncertainty distribution which has nothing to do with standard
distributions.
We decided to name the distribution “Dancing Distributions” because you can literally “make it dance”. Dancing Distributions can be interactively fitted to
any background data with a reasonable single mode distribution.
Our unique Dancing Distribution is one of the results of our collaboration with our advisor Prof. Jan de Jager during the first COVID-19 lockdown in 2020. Since then, we have also implemented legacy distributions such as normal or log-normal distributions.
Aggregation Space
For many users, a probabilistic aggregation
of segments (e.g., reservoir-seal pairs) into prospects is a bit of a black hole. Creating different scenarios, e.g. for various development concepts,
quickly becomes a source of errors.
We have made prospect aggregation transparent with our Aggregation Space. You specify the segments for your prospect, check the inputs and set up correlations. Then you run a co-simulation of the entire prospect, including all segments with their risk and volume correlations.
To analyse the output efficiently and transparently, you set up your dashboard view. Then you can switch on and off various segments to check the impact on risk and resources. No re-simulation required – you create your scenarios on the fly, and the dashboard updates accordingly!
